What were you doing 10 years ago?For me I had just entered high school, X Factor was entering its peak time and a year had passed since everyone’s infamous “2007 emo phase”. But a group of 18/19-year-old boys did something that would still impact their lives today, something that no one would ever forget. You Me At Six released their debut album, Take Off Your Colours, and they were now celebrating its 10-year-anniversary.At a sold out show at Leeds o2 Academy there was a mixture of people, from those who would’ve been the same age as the band when the album came out to those who would’ve barely entered their preteens, the fact was that it didn’t matter how old you are; this album still meant a lot to you and everyone was there to celebrate it’s legacy. From the moment that the opening notes of The Truth Is A Terrible Thing started to when they played the classic Save It For The Bedroom to performing the emotional Always Attract everyone was jumping up and screaming in excitement and were on You Me At Six’s side as they flash-backed to a simpler time. You could say that not much has changed in the past 10 years, while the band has matured and experimented with more genres such a RnB and dance (much to some fans horror, given the reaction to the 3am music video), they appeared very much the same as they would’ve been back then.Looking at the band as they performed they all appeared massively excited and genuinely happy to be there, much like they were when they performed their first few shows all of those years ago.For them this tour date was very special: “Leeds is where it all started,” stated Josh Franceschi, (they were originally signed with Slam Dunk Records who released Take Off Your Colours) “so you better give it your all.”And gave it our all we did. With the constant encouragement of the famous "Yorkshire" and “Leeds, u wot u wot” chants and circle pits Josh was satisfied: “That’s the Leeds we know.”In terms of the setlist, it wasn’t just a case of playing the album in full, coming back for one or two more other songs and that would be it, oh no.What we got was - Take Off Your Colours in full AND eleven, yes, eleven songs despite them being pushed for time.In the eleven song encore we, of course, got some tracks from their latest release VI, they revisited some older tracks that hold sentimental memories for them, Finders Keepers and Kiss And Tell, as well as the hits like Reckless and Bite My Tongue.Finishing it all off with Underdog and having everyone scream the chorus to end the night was nothing short of perfection. It had been over a year since You Me At Six had performed in Leeds and wow, had we missed them.See you next year lads. *wink, wink*
