Waterparks - See You In The Future Tour Review

Waterparks - See You In The Future Tour Review

Each time I review Waterparks I always mention how much bigger and better they get, how much more confident they are, and how they accomplish a new achievement.

And here I am once again saying probably not for the last time. The growth of Waterparks has been incredible, from their first UK show where less than 10 people turned up to see them, (anyone who claims that they were at the first show I will almost guarantee you are lying, I know every single person who was there), to now headlining Brixton o2 Academy where just 5 years prior they were a relatively unknown support act.

So how did this all come to be?

Simple; Waterparks are unashamedly themselves.

While this may cause some division, (and fair enough I understand they’re not for everyone), the majority of people who complain are the same ones who go on about how bands do the same thing over and over again, yet someone dares to be different and suddenly they’re “sell-outs”.

It’s clear that Waterparks have escaped being put into the pop-punk box with their constant experimentation with other genres such as pop, electronic, and heavy rock; no two songs sound the same.

This is further confirmed with their stage show on tour complete with visuals that accompany each individual song, giving them their own distinct personality and story.

From the Cyberpunk 2077 and Bladerunner back story of Reboot, the You-esque Violet! complete with stalker imagery and paranoia, to the funky man dancing in the background of Fuzzy, all of the visuals were simply outstanding all thanks to the creativity of frontman Awsten Knight and photographer/videographer Jawn Rocha.

One thing that will also never change is Awsten Knight’s charisma, confidence and…uh…questionable humour.

Seriously the mum jokes have been never ending and other random things such as recreating a low budget Lion King with a bin was also a highlight.

With the above all mentioned it’s no wonder that they’ve now achieved headline status at Brixton o2 Academy, the biggest show of their career so far.

One can only imagine what’s to come next, what can we expect of the album, the next tour? So far we’ve experienced Funeral Grey and been teased with another new song Brainwashed, we can safely assume that they’re heading into a whore era.

Seriously, what can you expect from lines such as “I know you’re dying wish is to be baptised in my spit” and “I’m thinking about me getting you off”.

It’s a hoe era and we’re all here for it…what a sentence.

Waterparks; never change and everyone is excited to Watch What Happens Next (haha…I’m not sorry).
