Waterparks - Lowkey As Hell Review

Waterparks - Lowkey As Hell Review

Published On:

It is a fair statement to make in that Waterparks have caused a mixed reaction within the pop-punk community; people either absolutely adore them or people can’t stand them.

This is mostly due to Awsten Knight, for being the “annoying, loud guy on Twitter with the bright coloured hair” yet ask them their thoughts on their music and they haven’t listened to it, or they secretly dig it.

Or they cannot stand them due to their fanbase.

Understandable.

Lowkey As Hell starts with a distorted sound which is then replaced with a mixed drum track as Awsten starts singing about his insecurities, insecurities that he should not have as “at least my work is working, right?”

Things get more concerning as the song goes on as he begins to open up about his mental health and the dark thoughts he’s had in recent times; “I'll probably die in my apartment I couldn't afford last year”.

We also hear a reference to 2018’s Watch What Happens Next; “I like cool shirts, I like cold rings, I want a big house, but I'm hiding”, as well as a reference to Awsten’s real life work ethic; “I haven’t had a day off since my blue hair”.

It all comes to a head in the second chorus as he screams “I want a brain that doesn’t hate me, I wanna see my stupid fucking friends daily” where the mixed guitar and drum get louder to match the frustration Knight feels.

Whatever you feel about Waterparks, what you cannot accuse them of is being fake; they have always been upfront and honest about everything.

They say how it is and call out those who deserve it from past romances and friendships, the ups and downs of fame, fake people, to even the toxic behaviour of those within their own fandom.

Now they are talking about their mental health.

Yet people still mostly focus on Awsten’s social media presence; “I'm highkey and lowkey as hell. Your diva, I just wanna see ya'”

So, we should not have been surprised when on his last livestream he cut off the remainder of his bright green hair.

To summarise; they can now just be themselves.

Awsten no longer needs to have bright coloured hair to be noticed, they are now confident enough to be noticed just by their music.
