Evanescence - The Bitter Truth Review

Published On:

It’s been 10 years since Evanescence put out an album with new material. Everyone’s been waiting patiently as band members went on with personal lives and projects, as they released an album with remixed versions of their songs with orchestra backing, but now the wait is finally over. And our patience has been well rewarded with a stunning record.

As the album opens with intro track ‘Artifact/The Turn’, which then blends into following song, Broken Pieces Shine, you are immediately transfixed and gripped with what is to come. You’re taken on a journey visiting a range of topics, from ‘Feeding the Dark’ which can be described as a modern version of ‘Going Under’, the personal ‘Better Without You’ that details the journey and struggles that frontwoman, Amy Lee, went through dealing with the music industry to the politically charged ‘Use My Voice’ featuring vocals from a range of guests including Lzzy Hale and Taylor Momsen.

The Bitter Truth is everything we could have ever wanted and so much more. It has everything Evanescence is renowned for with their sound and song topics, yet it shows off their personal growth after dealing with personal events and tragedy, as well as confidence in dealing with the dark side of fame and the music industry. It’s an album about self reflection, personal journeys, and a commentary on current social events. Absolutely worth the decade long wait.
