Don Broco at Rock City

Fans flocked to Rock City to watch Bedfordshire-based band, Don Broco, for their sold out show on 13th February.Tonight was significant as not only did members, Matt Donnelly (drums) and Rob Damiani (lead vocals), go to Nottingham university a few years prior but this was also the first show of the tour to sell out.So no pressure then.Opening for tonight was dark/alt pop band Yonaka from Brighton which, considering the upcoming show that would be filled with constant crowd-surfing and mosh pits, were a pretty tame choice of a support act.Man On A Mission on the other hand, wow, you know it's going to be interesting when the band members turn up onstage wearing wolf masks.A blend of hard rock and dance pop, the Japanese band treated the crowd to a loud set that certainly grabbed everyone's attention and there was not one person who looked bored or disinterested, whether that's down to their music or appearance is up to you, but it certainly helped to throw in a cover of Nirvana's Smells Like Teen Spirit.Don Broco are currently touring their newest album, Technology, so it made sense for them to open with the first two singles from the album, Pretty, which still has hands down the best PR campaign seen in a long time (the build up to Tom Doyle's (bass) "wedding" and countdown turned out to be the build up to the single's release) and Everybody, released around 18 months prior, where not one person wasn't doing the iconic dance routine. And of course the chanting of "8 days a week sucker!" and "Bedford" was loud throughout the venue. The setlist tonight was a mix between the new album and their previous release, Automatic, with their debut, Priorities, only being acknowledged once with its title track. They also acknowledged their much older material with Thug Workout.Of course this wouldn't be a Don Broco show without Rob jumping into the crowd at least once, or encouraging everyone to do push ups in the mosh pit; "That was created right here in Nottingham!"The setlist was filled with fan favourites, hits and new songs; from the newer Stay Ignorant, Technology, Porkies and ¥ (the first time they ever played it live) to the popular You Wanna Know, Fire and Nerve, there was never a point where no one wasn't going mad. There was also a few sweet surprises.A fan named Jack had won a competition to watch the show side-stage and he took the opportunity to make a speech onstage and propose to his girlfriend, Eleanor (we believe that's the right name).Congratulations to the two of you!The encore for tonight was Come Out To LA and T-Shirt Song, complete with everyone swinging their shirts above their head.Don Broco are currently on tour now, get your tickets here.[metaslider id=385]
