Against The Current - that won't save us Review

An important lesson we learned in 2020 is that we need to be unafraid in calling out the toxicity and negative actions of others.

Whether it be someone we’re close to, friend or lover, or a certain group of people, we cannot just remain silent and let them getaway with treating us like dirt.

That’s the story Against The Current tells in their newest release.

Frontwoman, Chrissy Costanza, starts off with soft vocals asking the important question: “What did I hear you say? Say it to myface.”

Over the course of the first verse it’s like she finally has the courage to speak out and it’s a scary feeling, it’s nerve wrecking.

But by the time the first chorus hits, Chrissy has become fully confident and is now being loud with all of her feelings; “Maybe we were born to fight. If we wanna make it out alive, we gotta let the anger die, cause that won’t save us.”

This is something that a lot of us wish we could do, but once you’ve got the courage it’s the most exhilarating feeling.

It all comes to a head in the final bridge, a summary of the entire song; “Are you proud of what we’ve come to be? We’re sorry, but that won’t save us.”

That won’t save us has that classic pop-rock Against The Current sound, reminiscent of their first few EPs; simple, fun and catchy.

The beauty of the song is that it’s so open-ended; it can apply to difference scenarios which makes it so relatable to the majority of listeners.

It’s a strong introduction to the band’s new era and we’re eager to hear what comes out next.
