Against The Current - Fever Tour Review

Against The Current - Fever Tour Review

Published On:

The trio made their third appearance at Leeds Stylus on Friday as part of their tour to promote their newest EP “fever”. Well, we say trio but unfortunately drummer, Will Ferri, was injured and unable to play that night so instead crew member, Jesse, who “has been with us since the beginning” had to step in. Still didn’t prevent Will from joining in during the night through live-streaming the event, interacting with the crowd and even offering tequila to people onstage.

It came across as a very friendly gathering where everyone involved was having the time of their lives, and that’s the thing with Against The Current. Throughout the show they gave off the vibe that we were all friends and family here, everyone is welcome and we are here to have a good time. It’s the type of positivity we need after the hellish few years we’ve had. As mentioned they have now performed at the Stylus three times, and each time they get better, they get more confident and much more unforgettable.

Chrissy Costanza is formidable as a front woman and is able to control the crowd as she guides us through the emotions of each song on the setlist. Whether it was the rebellious style of Running With The Wild Things, the heartbreak of Shatter or the frustration of Voices, we felt everything that she ever felt. The night focused a lot more on the more louder, rockier version of their discography, a direction that their most recent EP took in comparison to their previous album Past Lives.

A moment that certainly stood out was their performance of Jump where Costanza gave an inspirational speech of taking the leap into doing the things you’re typically afraid of as you never know what might happen. It was a moment filled with pure happiness and, in all honesty, a shared emotion of feeling powerful like nothing could stop you. The night concluded with ‘Weapon’, a angry and loud song that got crowd going as people moshed and (the one person) crowdsurfed, but overall felt like a nostalgia trip back to the early years of Against The Current.

Three performances at the Stylus and each time they get better through talent, maturity and the shared love between fans. What more could you want?
